Things to do in the summer in Japan if you hate going to the beach

Summer is almost here!! When we think of summer, we automatically think: beaches, swimsuits, waves etc., but for people who don’t really fancy going to the beach like me, there are still several ways to enjoy Japan’s scourging hot and very very humid summer.

1. Matsuri
Going to a Matsuri or festival is the best way to get the full Japan experience.
Put on a stylish yukata and take a walk around area eating good food. Their food stalls usually include yakisoba (fried noodles), ikayaki (fried squid), cotton candy, and Ringo Ame (fruits coated in melted sugar). If you have a partner, it is also the perfect date spot for a hot summer day!

2. Firework display
Japan’s firework displays are one of the best in the world. Lucky for you, they hold several firework display events throughout the summer. Just like festivals, they have a list up for firework display events. Their most famous event is the Sumidagawa River Fireworks Festival, which will be held in July 28, 2018. Just bring a picnic mat, some food and chilled drinks, and watch the extravagant display of fireworks. There will be A LOT of people going to watch, so I would suggest saving a spot from early morning!

3. Music Festivals
During the summer, several music promotion companies hold their annual summer music festivals. It is usually a 3 day long event of purely music, food, drinks and a good time! Hotels would be nearly impossible to get so make sure to book as early as now!

You can check details of the top 3 most talked about music events below!
